Yesterday I tried out Substack Live for the first time and had a conversation with

from , where we talked about the prospects of mind uploading and digital immortality.

We talked about the current state of the art with regards to simulating the brains of fruit flies and nematodes, why brain simulation is so hard, and what maps of the brain (connectomes) are missing.

Along the way we had lots of digressions into science fiction, including talking a bit about the classic Star Trek transporter thought experiments.
